Micropep Technologies is a young innovative plant biotechnology startup based in Toulouse, France. The company is developing a new generation of innovative plant stimulation and plant protection solutions for a more sustainable agriculture. Our products are based on a disruptive technology that uses natural peptides (miPEPs) that can transiently regulate the expression of plants’ microRNAs and their targeted genes*.
We are looking for a system biology expert with a strong entrepreneurial spirit to join our data science department: you will have the opportunity to play a central role in developing and shaping the future efforts in this fast-moving area.
Working with data from omics technology platforms including genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, and physiological/biochemical pathways, you will create and develop computational solutions to help the team drive the understanding of the mechanisms underlying the peptides discovered at Micropep.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the responsibility of the Chief Data Science Officer, you will be responsible for:
Targets discovery in collaboration with biologists
Modelling biological systems of plants
Integrating pathway analysis tools and machine learning techniques into existing data analysis workflows
Developing bioinformatics software tools, interpreting and integrating large scale biological data
Optimizing and automating data extraction and integration
Implementing quality control and data quality monitoring procedures
Remaining current with advances in biology, computer science and bioinformatics
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
M.S. required (PhD preferred) in computational biology or mathematics or computer science.
At least 3 years of professional hands-on experience in this or a similar role
Experience in modeling complex biological systems of plants (experience with weeds is highly appreciated)
Experience with biological data including any omics (experience with big biological data mining is a p/highly appreciated)
Knowledge and good hands-on experience of common machine learning frameworks
Experience in applying cloud computing to increase the understanding of biological systems
3+ years’ experience in biological software and algorithm development (inventing/coding recognized publicly available bioinformatics software are appreciated)
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS
Machine Learning techniques (examples include artificial neural networks, random forests, clustering…)
Programming: OOP and scripting in many languages
Statistics (python and/or R)
An understanding of standard bioinformatics tools (protein databases, alignments…)
Experience in the analysis of complex biological systems such as molecular networks and signaling pathways
Familiarity with the formats for the representation of biological data (BioPAX, SBGN) and with the main biological databases
Familiarity with software tools to visualize and analyze biological networks
Proactive and accountable
Good organization skills and good optimization of the working environment
Ability to manage multiple projects and overlapping deadlines
Natural ability for problem-solving
Good communication skills, both written and verbal are required (English mandatory)
Ability to communicate with experimental biologists, computer scientists and non-scientists
Compensation: based on experience
